The flagship of this Motorcycle Club is the infamous ROARING FORTIES winds.
Hundreds of years ago before steam and combustion were king; the sailors of old would sail down the globe to 40° south of the equator and hoist their sails to catch the known westerly winds that blow straight across the oceans, through South America, under South Africa and on through Tasmania and New Zealand.
These winds were used like a motorway for the sailors of old to circumnavigate the globe on & then jump off and head to port wherever they desired.
It were those sailors from hundreds of years ago who named these winds the Roaring Forties.
The Roaring Forties winds are a Southern Hemisphere phenomenon that lives between the latitudes of 40° & 50° south of the equator and directly beneath the Southern Cross constellation of stars.
In 1966, The Roaring Forties Motorcycle Club was founded in Christchurch New Zealand and the bikes ridden were predominantly British – The club founder was a rider known as ‘Wool’ and the Club existed into the early 1970’s.
In 2002, a direct descendant from an original Roaring Forties Motorcycle Club member was part of a group of inmates within Rimutaka Prison who together decided to revive The Roaring Forties Motorcycle Club based on the values of genuine friendships & the dream of sharing freedom together out on the road – Good faces going places.
In 2007, The Roaring Forties Motorcycle Club Side-Arm Regalia of old was reintroduced back onto the roads of New Zealand and there are now two Fleets of Roaring Forties Club Members scattered throughout New Zealand.
When the Roaring Forties ride – we ROAR around the landscapes of New Zealand with them fabled Roaring Forties winds – along the coastlines, around the lakes, across the plains, over the rivers, through the gorges, past the mountains, navigating our way through traffic & passing through the many towns and cities.
The Roaring Forties Motorcycle Club is essentially a group of folk who work hard & look forward to the next Roaring Forties event, trip away, day ride or social get together.
